Here at Market Infra, we understand that the role of Bid Writer can be stressful. Tight deadlines and technical responses mean a supportive team and excellent organisational skills are really important.

To give more of an insight into life as a Bid Writer at Market Infra we spoke to Katherine, who has been part of the team for just over a month…

What is your role at Market Infra?

I have been working for Market Infra for the past month as a bid writer. As I am still fairly new, I have been familiarising myself with the industry and have begun by working on an overhead line bid.

What does your role entail?

My role primarily focuses on writing portions of the bid response, using information gleaned from communication with the client to pull together answers which are both informative and well-written.

So far, my work has mainly involved cross referencing the client’s existing library of previous responses with the question being posed in the bid, adding extra value where possible by incorporating relevant information about the client’s proposition.

On a more visual side, I have read through some of the client’s marketing collateral, selecting the most pertinent information to include in the response as infographics. I have also been proofreading and formatting responses before they are returned to the client for a round of reviews.

In the next few weeks, I will be increasingly involved in the client-facing side of the role, including storyboarding sessions in which we discuss with the client how to plan out responses, considering the client’s notable achievements and win themes. This will mean I am working with bid managers and the client to assimilate the strongest possible responses for their bid.

What’s your favourite thing about your job?

As suggested by the job title, I really enjoy writing and proofreading, so that the written content of a bid is clear and informative. One of my favourite tasks so far has been to set up the first draft of an executive summary document for a client’s bid. This gave me a good opportunity to write portions of the document from scratch, pulling together the client’s achievements and writing about them in a compelling way.

What is the best thing about being a bid writer at Market Infra specifically?

The people – everyone has been friendly and welcoming so far, especially during COVID-19 when the process of starting a new job remotely has been so unusual. I am looking forward to the next few months as I develop further and learn more about the industries Market Infra supports, as well as working alongside the rest of the team.
