How to improve storyboarding sessions

Storyboarding sessions can be really helpful - but only if they’re done right. Before beginning, you need to make sure you know what you’re doing in order to get the most out of them. That’s where this guide comes in!

Based on countless sessions, with a wide variety of clients, we’ve put together a short guide to help you improve your storyboarding sessions - we know how storyboarding sessions work, what they involve, and their potential.

Here’s how to get them right…

Always have a facilitator

This is probably the number one tip when it comes to storyboarding sessions, as they can easily lose focus if they’re not run correctly.

Enter - the facilitator.

Having a facilitator, usually the Bid Manager, helps the session to stay on topic and can prompt attendees to ensure the right information is given.

Limit your attendees

Less really is more when it comes to storyboard session attendees.

It’s easy to think that more people will mean more information - however it can sometimes lead to confusion if the wrong people attend the session.

Keep it to a small group of subject matter experts, who will understand the purpose of the session.

Write everything down

There’s nothing worse than thinking of something and then forgetting to write it down. The same applies for storyboarding sessions.

Nominate someone - usually the Bid Writer - to type notes whist people are talking.

Try to capture as much as you can, so that it can be written up into a comprehensive storyboard or first draft, depending on requirements.

Record the session

If all attendees agree, recording the session allows the Bid Writers to go back over what was said, in peace and quiet.

Whilst they will be typing furiously, it can be difficult to capture everything that is said - recording the session helps to catch anything that might have been missed.

Speak to the experts

With these tips, you’re well on your way to more successful storyboarding sessions!

However, there’s nothing more crucial than working with consultants that understand the processes and your needs as a business.
